KiwiSaver at a Glance
Your balance grows from three sources: your own contributions from pay (the default rate is 3.5% since 1 April 2026), your employer’s compulsory contribution of at least 3.5%, and the government contribution of up to $260.72 a year, plus investment returns. The rules for each are in KiwiSaver contribution rates, employer KiwiSaver contributions and the KiwiSaver government contribution. Savings are locked in until 65, with exceptions such as a first home: see the KiwiSaver withdrawal rules.
