Flybuys NZ Has Closed
Flybuys, New Zealand’s multi-retailer loyalty programme since 1996, closed at the end of 2024. Loyalty New Zealand, the company that ran it, closed too.
Flybuys no longer exists in New Zealand. Members could earn points until 11.59pm on 31 October 2024 and had until 11.59pm on 31 December 2024 to redeem them; unredeemed points lapsed. For supermarket rewards now, use Foodstuffs' Club+ (New World, Pak'nSave, Four Square) or Woolworths Everyday Rewards.
What Happened
Loyalty New Zealand announced on 30 May 2024 that Flybuys would close at the end of the year, saying “the Flybuys model of a services and retailer alliance has run its course”. About 1.8 million members were active at the time. IAG New Zealand agreed to buy some of Loyalty New Zealand’s assets.
Over the previous decade, partners including Air New Zealand, Mitre 10 and New World had pulled out of Flybuys to join other loyalty programmes or start their own.
What to Use Instead
- New World, Pak’nSave and Four Square: Club+, which earns Club+ dollars (convertible to Airpoints) and a fuel discount, and scans at Z and Caltex.
- Woolworths: Everyday Rewards, 1 point per $1 and a $15 voucher for every 2,000 points (usable on groceries or at BP).
- Credit card rewards: see rewards credit cards; BNZ’s Advantage Visa Platinum, which used to earn Flybuys, now earns BNZ points.
